It was very easy to do this, but almost impossible to get the screen to be clear and the sound quality to be good. Next time I will stick with the 7 pin so that I get a screen that isn't blurry. So I bought this to hook up my laptop to my tv. I read reviews that said you could use a 4 pin instead of 7 pin and because the 4 pin cable was longer and cheaper I bought this one.
Hopefully this helps some of you. I have an older tv with an s-video and composite in. Quite simply, I was looking for a splitter to send the signal from one satellite box to two tv's. What to do. So with a little experimentation and as simple as this sounds, I didn't need a splitter. I connected the s-video out from the Sat box to the s-video in in the older tv (you also have to connect composite audio cables with this option) and the HDMI out from the Sat box to the HDMI in in the new LCD. The old boxes used to have a coax in and a coax out to the tv. But the new HD boxes have a coax in but only s-video, composite, component and HDMI out.
I just purchased a new LCD flat screen with HDMI, component, s-video and composite ins. All I had to do was set the video input on the older tv to S-video and the video input on the new tv to HDMI and I had two tvs working off of the same box at the same time without a splitter. FYI because I have received so much great info from Amazon's ratings pages. You could split the coax out to two tv's with no problem. I wanted to send the signal from the Sat box to both tv's so I didn't have to buy a new Sat box or pay additional lease charges.
In the end we downloaded this driver, NVIDIA, and that makes it work. It took me a little while to figure out the settings for my computer to get movies to play on the TV. The sound and the picture quality are good. I'm pleased with this product. The color coding makes it super simple to attach. It's so nice to sit on my comfy couch and watch movies on the nice large screen of my TV instead of watching from my laptop.
But, because I only wanted to watch Netflix movies on my television, this cable works out wonderfully. It displays video very nicely on a SD CRT television but as the reviews stated, working or surfing the web from your computer over your television is too blurry with this cable. I would recommend this cable to anyone interested in the same type of application as mine but not to someone who wants to work on their computer or surf the internet on their TV. After an unsuccessful search for a quality DVI to RCA cable I found this S-video to RCA at Amazon.com. I chose this cable because of the reviews it had received from previous consumers. It is very easy to connect and its 12 foot length is a nice convenience.
Only, small glich was seller described cable as black and it was gray. I'm really happy about this product. Great purchase video and sound work great from computer to tv & stereo. I really didn't have a problem w/ this as I'm going to save about $125.00 a month on cable television bills.
